Open Day/Garden Party
Has it been some time since you last visited our museum? Well, why not come down on Sunday 6 September and view the changes. We are also holding a Garden Party on the day to raise funds for the "Armchair Viewing Project".
What's that you may ask.
For those who have visited the museum, you may remember the steep stairs leading to the upper bedrooms. Not everyone is able or willing to climb those stairs, so to cater for those people we want to purchase an Edwardian/pre 1930s armchair to place downstairs. A professional photographer will then be employed to take photographs of the upstairs rooms and the objects on display. These photos will be placed in an album, giving visitors the choice of climbing the stairs, or sitting downstairs viewing the rooms through the album.
Also at the Garden Party will be a display of vintage cars (morning only), antique & collectable stalls, plants, books & more. The ladies from the Geraldton Historical Society are providing morning teas/light lunches.
The historic Rock of Ages cottage across the road will be open for viewing and will also have a Quilt & Bear Display.
Why not combine your trip to Greenough with a visit to the Walkaway Markets that are also being held that morning.
The Pioneer Museum Open Day is from 9am to 3pm and entry is by donation.
We look forward to seeing you.

Greenough Pioneer Museum News October 2008
James G. Maley (great grandson of J.S. Maley) and Gary Martin (Curator of the Greenough Pioneer Museum) at the Open Day celebrations
A very successful Open Day was held at the museum on Sunday 5 October. Many descendants of the Maley family came to witness the unveiling of the 2 new panels. Bill Maley unveiled the introductory panel about John Stephen and Elizabeth Maley displayed in the Office. This panel was generously funded by Ian J. Maley.
Following this, we all squeezed into Granny Maley's bedroom to watch James Maley unveil the Maley Family Tree panel which he had generously funded. This panel contains information and photographs of 65 members of the extended family.
Thanks go out to Peter Dameon of "Two Fish Drowning" for the excellent work undertaken in designing and printing the two panels.
Greenough Pioneer Museum News August 2008 - New Front Gate
If you had visited the Greenough Pioneer Museum over the previous 40 years you would have seen the front entrance looking very similar to the photo on the left.
With help from the Shire of Greenough, the gardens wall were restored, the removed sections rebuilt and then repainted. The Greenough Pioneer Museum celebrated its 40th birthday in September 2006. As an appropriate gesture the decision was made to commission a local artist to design and construct a new front gate for the museum.
In August 2008 the new gate was installed. The gate which was designed by Joey Martin and made by Ray Faulkner was generously funded by the City of Geraldton-Greenough. I reckon you will agree with me that it makes a fitting entrance to the museum and apprpriately celebrates an important landmark in the history of this place.
