Peter J. Maley

1. Peter John Maley Born 1923 in Three Springs.

Irwin Index 9/09/1933 “Personal – Master Peter Maley, the son of Mr and Mrs F.J. Maley of Three Springs was thrown from his pony last Saturday and sustained a fractured forearm and other injuries that necessitated the attention of Dr Mayrhofer at the North Midlands District Hospital.”

Geraldton Guardian & Express 23/06/1938 “Local and General - Cyclist Seriously Injured. Suffering from injuries which he sustained on Friday last as a result of being hit by a car on the Greenough Road, a lad named Peter John Maley, aged 14 years, is reported to be lying in a serious condition at the St John of God Hospital at Geraldton. From inquiries made by the police it would appear that Maley was riding a cycle in a southerly direction on the Greenough Road about three miles from Geraldton on Friday afternoon about 3 o’clock. At the same time, a car driven by Miss Osra Eves, of Walkaway, was also travelling on the road in the same direction. Miss Eves was accompanied by her father (Mr Henry Eves) and the Misses Backshall and Mrs Haslem of Walkaway. Apparently, after negotiating a bend in the road the car overtook the cyclist and a collision took place. Maley was thrown heavily to the roadway, whilst the car, as a result of the endeavours by Miss Eves to avoid hitting the lad, eventually veered off the road and struck a telephone post. The cyclist was immediately conveyed to hospital, since which time his condition has shown little improvement, it being ascertained this afternoon that he is suffering from a fractured skull and internal injuries. Maley is a resident of Three Springs, and had been staying with relatives in Geraldton.”

Geraldton Guardian & Express 25/06/1938 “Local and General - Cyclist’s Death Follows Accident. General regret was expressed in Geraldton today when it became known that Peter John Maley, aged 14 years, who was injured in an accident on Friday of last week, had succumbed to his injuries in the St John of God Hospital. For the past week the lad had been on the danger list in the hospital, suffering from a fractured skull and internal injuries. On Friday of last week the deceased was riding a bicycle on the Greenough Road about three miles from Geraldton, and became involved in a collision with a sedan car driven by Miss Osra Eves of Walkaway who, at the time, was returning home. Thrown heavily to the roadway Maley sustained serious injuries, and grave fears were entertained for his recovery from the outset, death taking place about 7 o’clock this morning. The deceased lad, whose father is engaged in farming pursuits at Three Springs, was a pupil of the Geraldton District High School, and for the past eight months had been residing with Mr and Mrs Kevin Carr in Augustus St. A pupil in the eighth standard, he was of a bright and amiable disposition, and deep regret is felt at his sad and sudden demise. The remains of the deceased were interred this afternoon in the Anglican portion of the Utakarra Cemetery.”
